The SC agreed to consider the Centre’s submissions for an open court hearing of its plea seeking review of the judgment by which several provisions of the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Amendment Act, 2016 were struck down. The court had struck down section 3(2) and section 5 of Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, 1988, and one of the provisions which provided for the punishment of a maximum jail term of three years or a fine or both for those indulging in ‘benami’ transactions.

Study: More cold wave days in India in recent decade

India may have seen a number of record-breaking warm years in the recent decades, but there has been no let-up in the extreme cold waves in the country despite global warming, an IITM study has indicated. India eyes MacBook production, may boost incentive scheme

After the success of iPhone production in India, the government is set to sweeten the deal to kickstart the coveted manufacturing of MacBooks and iPads in the country, looking to broad-base the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware to nearly Rs 20,000 crore against the existing outlay of Rs 7,350 crore which failed to receive much response from the industry.

Delhi air improved in 2022, was 2nd cleanest in 6 years

The annual average PM2.5 concentration of Delhi in 2022 fell below 100 micrograms per cubic metre for only the second time since 2017, making the year gone by the second cleanest in the last six years. However, the 2022 average was still 2.5 times higher than the annual national ambient air quality standard of 40 micrograms/cubic metre and 20 times higher than WHO’s safe limit of 5.
