Social media accounts can’t be arbitrarily suspended: Govt

The Centre on Wednesday told the Delhi high court that a citizen’s fundamental rights must be respected. In an affidavit filed on a plea by Twitter users Megh Bulletin and Wokeflix challenging the suspension of accounts by the platform, the government said a person’s liberty and freedom of expression cannot be “waylaid or jettisoned in the slipstream of social and technological advancement”, adding that suspension of accounts must be the last resort.

Remarking that courts should take a liberal view in awarding compensation to victims who are left 100% disabled and also suffer mental disabilities after road accidents, the Supreme Court on Tuesday extended its helping hand to one such child and awarded Rs 50 lakh compensation with 7.5% interest per annum. Senior citizens may not need 10k steps a day, 6k-8k enough

The 10,000-steps-a-day health mantra may not be accurate, and people may need fewer steps to live healthier for longer, according to a new study published in ‘The Lancet’. For adults over 60 years of age and older, the risk of premature death levelled off at about 6,000-8,000 steps per day, meaning that more steps than that provided no additional benefit for longevity.

Govt proposes lower rate of third party premium for EVs for next FY

The road transport ministry has proposed a lower rate of third party (TP) premium for electric and hybrid electric vehicles for the next financial year while proposing a marginal increase in the premium for all other categories of vehicles. The only exception is for the multi-axle trailers where the premium may increase by nearly 6%.
