Core sector grows 11.6% in August on low base effect

The eight core sectors grew for the sixth consecutive month in August led by robust expansion in cement, electricity, coal and natural gas segments, data showed on Thursday. As many as 31 states and UTs have covered more than 60% of their adult population above 18 with at least one dose of Covid vaccines and 25% of this cohort has received the full two doses. Overall, 69% of the total adult population of the country has received at least one dose of vaccine. As a share of the entire population, the coverage works out to 46% and India has administered 889 million shots.

The SC collegium led by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana on Friday recommended appointment of eight high court judges as chief justices of various HCs and transferred five HC chief justices as head of other HCs, thus taking steps to put in place new chief justices in 13 states.
